About My Clients
Hi! I know it can be overwhelming finding a therapist. To get an idea of me, I often work with those looking to better understand themselves, why they do things and ways to cope. They might be struggling with relationships, navigating major life changes, or facing substance use issues. They might be LGBQ/TGNB or an ally. I believe each person has their own unique identity, culture, and environment, so I place great focus on honoring those parts of each them and working within their framework.
My Background and Approach
I've spent most of my life dedicated to mental health and the field of therapy, spending the last 10 honing my skills and become the therapist I am today. I think therapy can be an amazing, life changing experience and everyone deserves a therapist that matches them. I've trained in NYC and Sydney, Australia and have additional certification in trauma treatment. I'm also an instructor in Applied Psychology at New York University, and I draw from a psychodynamic, attachment-based, anti-oppressive, creative art and trauma informed work. I truly believe the relationship between therapist and client is one of the most powerful tools in therapy. So with empathy, energy, and curiosity, I aim to meet you where you are, inviting you to a safe space for you to find relief, gain clarity and insight about your feelings and experiences, and develop new strength to face your challenges. I also think that collaboration, creativity, and even a bit of humor play a key role in the healing process!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I always like to remind clients about our evolution as humans priming us for today. I believe we're all wired for relationships--that is, we're naturally relationship oriented and looking for peace, love and connection. I also believe we're wired to look for dangers, protect ourselves and make sure we survive for the next day. Often, our own self protections and those who are meant to protect us (whether those are loved ones, parents, or systems and institutions) create experiences that get in the way of us experiencing healthy relationship with ourselves and others. Whether it's neglect from parents, systemic oppression, or a world that just isn't designed to meet our basic human needs, our selves gets blocked. However, we're often left without this understanding or a story that explains why we act and feel the way we do. I hope for therapy to be a place to not just understand the why, but to invite a person back to a self that is connected inwards, to others, and feels peace.
