About My Clients
When I ask clients why they’ve come to therapy, many share a simple hope: "I just want to feel better." Often, they’re tired of feeling depressed, anxious, irritable, or angry. They're unhappy in a relationship or job or are having trouble adjusting to a life change (marriage, divorce/break-up, becoming a parent, losing a loved one, moving to a new location). As a psychologist with years of experience, I know how painful these challenges can be. And I also know that positive change is possible.
My Background and Approach
Everyone's journey is unique, which is why I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach to therapy. I draw from various therapeutic techniques—like person-centered, cognitive-behavioral, and psychodynamic therapy—to tailor our work together. We’ll delve into what’s causing your pain and examine your current coping strategies. Some of these ways of coping may have served you well in the past but might not fit your needs now. My top priority is to build a collaborative therapeutic relationship in which you feel safe and comfortable doing this important work. I know that opening up about yourself, especially with someone new, can feel really vulnerable. So you set the pace. Tell me what you're ready to explore and what you’re not, and we’ll go from there. You’re the expert on you, and I respect that. I’ll check in regularly to make sure therapy is meeting your needs and I’ll adjust as we go to ensure you’re satisfied with your experience.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I first learned about the field of psychology through my own experience of going to therapy. Because I found therapy to be so helpful for me, I decided to become a psychologist to be able to help others. I am honored to be a part of my clients' personal development and appreciate the opportunity to help them cope with and heal from life's challenges. In my free time, I enjoy reading, snuggling with my pet pug, and spending time outdoors with my husband and 3 kids. I love yoga and any exercise that combines physical movement with mindful awareness, and I believe these practices can do wonders for our mental health. I also enjoy learning about new approaches to therapy and am often participating in professional development trainings to broaden my skills. Most recently, I completed a certificate program training with Dr. Lindsay Gibson on Treating Adult Children of Emotionally Immature Parents.
