About My Clients
I am passionate about working with clients who feel or have felt at some point in their lives that for some reason they did not belong --i.e. people new to the country, or people whose parents grew up outside of the US. I also love helping clients who are struggling in relationships, or connecting with themselves and their own voice, and those who survived a traumatic upbringing and are now becoming aware of how that may have impacted the way they see themselves and the world around them.
My Background and Approach
I grew up in Peru, I am bilingual (Spanish/English), and I bring to you my ten years of experience working in community mental health agencies and my own private practice. Throughout my time as a counselor I have had the honor of getting to know and helping people from many different cultural and ethnic backgrounds, which earned me the designation of Ethnic Minority Mental Health Specialist. I spent almost three years working almost exclusively with the Latinx population, which put me in touch with the cultural shock many people experience during international moves, and to which I, as an immigrant, can definitely relate. My approach is existential, multicultural, phenomenological, relational. I have received training in feminist psychotherapy and women's issues. I am also very interested in mindfulness and its immense healing benefits, which led me to recently become a Certified Mindfulness Informed Professional.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe every human being is unique, and I will sit with you each session bringing profound curiosity about you, your history, and your choices, so that together we can find where the source of your suffering may be, and what you may be able to do about it. I also believe in the healing power of love, and I am a huge dog lover. If you are lucky, my sweet chocolate Labrador may make an appearance during our sessions.
