Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic, scary or dangerous event. PTSD can be caused by either witnessing or experiencing the trauma. Events that sometimes trigger PTSD include everything from sexual assault, war, and violence, to car accidents or other incidents that could cause loss of life. It is not at all uncommon for people who go through something traumatic to have temporary difficulty coping and acute symptoms, but with time, they usually get better. However, if the symptoms last longer than a month, get worse rather than better and affect your ability to function, you may be suffering from PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD may include severe anxiety, anger, nightmares, trouble sleeping, flashbacks to the event, frightening thoughts, avoidance of situations or places, feeling on edge and/or being easily startled. Andrea has experience working with children, adolescents, and individuals who struggle with acculturation and immigration issues, trauma, anxiety and depression, life transitions and their impact on identity, relationship issues and re-enactments, and emotional regulation and self-esteem. Andrea will support you in the process of prioritizing your wants and needs, as well as in the process of coming back to your body and feeling safe in it.
My clients tend to be motivated individuals who need some help understanding themselves and their patterns in order to make meaningful changes in their lives. I especially love working with the queer community, people struggling with eating disorders or disordered eating, as well as trauma survivors. At Resilience Lab my clients include women of color from diverse backgrounds who are struggling with self love, self esteem, colorism, hair stigma, cultural adjustment, religious identity, and intersectionality. Women of color are hit the hardest with race-related stress, and yet they seldom have the proper resources or tools to heal. In my practice, I help clients disrupt the intergenerational trauma that continues impacting them.
