Gender identity issues, sometimes called gender dysphoria or gender conflict, occur when an individual feels an inconsistency between their physical gender and the gender they truly feel or identify with. This most commonly exhibits itself as a physical discomfort with the gender one was assigned at birth, including the feeling of being in the wrong body. Children with gender dysphoria may express disgust of their own genitals or a certainty that they will grow up to be the opposite sex. Some individuals with gender identity issues treat this feeling by physically modifying their bodies to better match their gender identity. Gender dysphoria comes with it an increased risk for depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and bullying. Ever feel like you just don't know which way is up anymore? Whether it's at work or school, in your relationships, even in your own identity, it's easy to feel lost in the sea of life. Perhaps you're trying to adapt to a new normal, or you're feeling dissatisfied in your marriage; life isn't meant to just be tolerated or survived, it's meant to be lived and enjoyed. This can be incredibly challenging if you feel tense, on edge, fearful, resentful, panicked, lonely, or like you're not enough.

Being a human is not easy. We search for meaning, purpose, all while the world spins a web of uncertainty-making it difficult to feel safe- leaving us feeling anxious, hopeless, and confused. My goal as a therapist has always been to support my clients, both teenagers and adults, in looking at their lives, and their experiences, and encouraging them to find their meaning and purpose in all of the noise.
